Rooted in Resilience, Led by Those Most Affected

Brook Initiative was born out of the strength, courage, and vision of women, youth, and displaced persons from the northeastern region of Nigeria. This region, part of the Lake Chad Basin and the greater Sahel, has long been impacted by the dual crises of violent conflict and environmental disasters. Our founders, staff, and volunteers are intimately familiar with the challenges our communities face, having lived through the devastation brought by Boko Haram insurgency and the worsening floods that continue to displace thousands.

As a women-led, youth-led, and displaced-persons-led organization, we are driven by personal experiences of loss, displacement, and survival. We know firsthand the complexities of navigating life in one of the most vulnerable regions in the world, where climate change and conflict collide, deepening poverty and instability.

Our Response: Empowerment, Conservation, and Sustainable Livelihoods

Brook Initiative emerged as a beacon of hope, dedicated to helping communities not only survive but thrive. We empower local communities to take charge of their future by amplifying their voices, supporting their initiatives, and promoting sustainable solutions that address both environmental conservation and human well-being.

Our work centers on building resilience, especially for women and youth, who are often at the forefront of rebuilding communities after crisis strikes. We focus on fostering peace and stability through collective action, ensuring that every individual—regardless of their background—has the opportunity to lead a dignified life in a safe and healthy environment.
